VIOLA DARE

Viola G. Dare, 92, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Monday, June 24, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Reynolds officiating. St. Mary's Choir and organist Margaret Brenneman will provide music. Burial will be at Chester Cemetery, rural Grinnell, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

A rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will be present at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

She was the daughter of Edward and Nellie Mae Welch Walker and was born Oct. 2, 1909, in Mediapolis. She was a 1929 graduate of Mediapolis High School and received a nursing degree from Mercy Hospital in Burlington. She worked as a nurse at the former St. Francis Hospital in Grinnell.

On May 12, 1934, she was married to Harlan C. Dare in Burlington. They farmed near Grinnell until their retirement in 1969, then moved into Grinnell.

Mrs. Dare was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Federated Women's Club, the Grinnell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and the Grange.

Surviving are two brothers, Floyd Walker of Kalona and Lloyd Walker of Heber Springs, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters, Margaret and Esther Walker and Marie McClure, and four brothers, Howard, Arthur, Chet and Leo Walker.
