SCHWAB FUNERAL HELD TODAY

Joseph L. Schwwab, 84, died suddenly Thursday evening at Veterans' Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services for Joseph Schwab will be held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, Nov. 1) at the James Schalinske Funeral Home. The Rev. Hugh Shively, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Grinnell, will officiate. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner. Pallbearers will be Joe Baker, Harold Bradley, Max Chedester, Gaylord Elliott, Donald Louden and Donald Phillips. Graveside rites will be conducted by the members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

He was born in Oxford Junction, Ia., on Oct. 29, 1891, and later moved to Grinnell with his family and attended schools in the area. In 1914 he married Adah Adila Stafford in Grinnell.

He enlisted in the army and served during World war I. Following the death of his wife, he married Cecile McDowell on June 20, 1957 in Prairie City. He helped construct dormitories at Grinnell College and later worked there for Saga Foods. He was a member of the Grinnell American Legion Focht-Tennant Post No. 53.

He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Mrs. David (Jane) Ammerman of Anaheim, Calif.; his step-children, Mrs.Lloyd (Frances) Mincer of Lakewood, Calif.; and Wayne McDowell of Washington, Ill.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Jodie) Hansen of Buena Park, Calif.; his five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother and a sister, John Schwab of Ojibwa, Wis., and Mrs. Lawrence (Delora) Decatur of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and two brothers.
