DEATH SUMMONS CROSS SMITH

William Cross Smith, for many years a resident of Grinnell, passed away early Monday morning, aged 56 years. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. A.B. Cadwell. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born in Rock Creek township in Jasper county August 27, 1875. Practically all his life was spent in Grinnell, with the exception of about three years, when he made his home in Marshalltown.

He was married December 8, 1896 to Bertha Ann Reynolds and there are four children, Herbert B. Smith, Mrs. Wilma Carter, Minnie and Stanley, all of Grinnell. One daughter died in infancy.

Mr. Smith has been in failing health for a year or more and became seriously ill two weeks ago.

He is survived by two brothers, George W. Smith of Grinnell and John of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Viele of Grinnell and Mrs. Hattie Gunther of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; also by three grandchildren, Darlene, Herbert jr. and Gene, children of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Smith.
