ANDREW J. OLDS
--------------
One of Chester's Grand Men Passes On to His Final Reward.

The passing of Andrew J. Olds marks the end of a good and useful man in the Chester community.

Andrews J. Olds was born in Housatonic, Mass., Feb. 2, 1845, and died at his home in Chester township, October 13th, 1918.

His family came to Iowa in 1849 when he was but four years old. He had lived almost 70 years in this state. They first settled at Davenport and later at Durant where he grew to manhood.

January 1st, 1868 he was united in marriage to Eliza Winans, who died in 1885. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Grace Fuller, of Grinnell, Iowa.

In 1883 Mr. Olds and family came to Chester and settled on the farm where he died. Soon after coming to Chester he and his wife united with the Chester Congregational church under the pastorate of Father White. Here he gave 35 years of faithful service to the church.

July 2, 1887, he was united in marriage to Ella Williar who died in 1890. January 6th, 1893, he was married to Georgiana Moffett. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Edna Green, Noble B., at home, Eldon J., in U.S. navy, and Alice Gertrude at home.

Mr. Olds was a very quiet and unassuming man of few words, but full of good deeds. He was interested in all good work. His church meant much to him. As an officer of the church or in township affairs he always gave his best to the work in hand.

He was very careful of his farm and home and took unusual pride and interest in keeping a fine farm until prevented by poor health. His farm would have been a good example to any young man in these days of progressive farming.

The funeral was held at the home on Tuesday afternoon. Rev.H.S. Wissler, a former pastor conducted the services, and the body was laid to rest in the Chester cemetery.
