FRANK REED SERVICES HELD

Frank H. Reed, 84, of 633 Main St., died Thursday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of Jacob H. and Mae Nichols Reed, he was born Dec. 22, 1889, in Nebraska. He attended public schools near his home.

In November of 1911, he was married to Gladys Forrester in Montour, Iowa. The couple had 10 children: Frances Mae Reed who died March 29, 1917; Lloyd W. Reed who died Oct. 8, 1937; Harold G. Reed who died Jan. 26, 1938; Raymond Reed of Rte. 2, Kellogg; George Reed of Grinnell; Eleanor Murk of Grinnell; Mrs. Maurice (Mary) Reavis of Grinnell; Pauline Reed of St. Paul, Minn.; Dean Reed of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Robert Reed of Grinnell.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Reed made their home in the Tama and Montour areas. In 1916, they moved to near Grandmeadow and, later, to Dodge Center, Minn., to farm. Mrs. Reed died Oct. 29, 1945, and Mr. Reed continued to make his home in Dodge Center. In recent years, he was active in the Minnesota "Green Thumb Program" involving senior citizens in planting trees, shrubs, and flower gardens throughout the county. Mr. Reed moved to Grinnell in July of 1973 to be near his children.

Survivors include his seven children; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Holmes of San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife; his three children; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his brother, Roy Reed, who died at the age of 21.

Funeral services for Mr. Reed were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 19) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Turner, pastor of the Grinnell Church of the Nazerene, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Leonard Pearce, organist, and Mrs. James Ward, vocalist. Flowerbearers were Mrs. Marion See and Mrs. Gean Tiedemann. Pallbearers were Leroy Johnson, Merle Pagel, Dale Phipps, Richard Phipps, Marion See, and Gean Tiedemann.

Burial was in Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell.
