James Cullen Upchurch was born in Wayne county, Ky., March 17, 1884 and departed this life Oct. 21, 1929, aged 45 years 7 months, and 4 days. Oct. 29, 1907 he was united in marriage to Lily Woner of Cameron, Mo. To this union were born three children: Stella Evelyn, Mrs. Clarence Hart of Grant, Iowa; Lily and Kendall Paul.
He leaves besides his wife and other children, three brothers and three sisters: Will Upchurch of Colorado, John of Washington, D.C.; Palmer of Mirable, Mo.; Mrs. Roxey Gregory, Mrs. Pernie Morgan and Mrs. Avanell Scott all of Mirable, Mo. and one grandson baby James Hart. These with a host of friends mourn his early passing.
He was a friendly man and had no enemies. In his daily tasks of life Cullen Upchurch made friends with all with whom he came in contact. Those who knew him longest, were those who loved him most.
He found great satisfaction in serving his fellow men in a manner that won the approval of all those he served, honest, upright in his dealings, faithful to all the trusts imposed in him; a kindly man with a host of true friends.
For many years the family had lived in Chester township where he farmed for himself and others and served the public as a servant of the township. In all times and all places and with all men a faithful and true man. His genial smile and happy mood will never be forgotten.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. H.L. Wissler were held yesterday afternoon from the Chester church. Interment was in the Chester cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lewis Koger, John Koger, Cullen Gregory, William Paul, Frank Johnson and T.A. Armstrong.
