LILY WONER UPCHURCH

Lily Woner Upchurch was born January 23, 1891 in Louisville, Kentucky, and died October 28, 1957,at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence J. Hart, 614 South Main Street, Centerville, Iowa. The daughter of Henry Payton and Lucy Burton Woner, she was one of a family of seven children, three of whom survive: one brother, George, and two sisters, Della (Mrs. J.B. Cannon, San Francisco, California) and Louisa (Mrs. Oda Paul, Kellogg, Iowa).

She was united in marriage to James Cullen Upchurch at Princeton, Missouri, moving shortly after to Grinnell, Iowa, where she has since made her home. To this union three children were born: two daughters, Stella (Mrs. Clarence Hart) of Centerville, Lorena (Mrs. Jesse Billings) of Grinnell, Iowa, and one son, Kendall, deceased. Her husband also preceded her in death on October 21, 1929.

As a young girl she was baptised in the Baptist church, later transferring her church membership to the Chester Congregtional church near Grinnell.

Since 1938 she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Billings in Grinnell,and at the time of her death was visiting in Centerville with her other daughter, Mrs. Clarence Hart. Besides her children and a host of friends both in Centerville and Grinnell, Mrs. Upchurch leaves five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 30th from the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. G.S. Bruland, minister of the Methodist church, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Rhee Auman.

Pallbearers were Gaylor Bowen, Donald Lewis, Fred Schrader, Lawrence Squire, Gene Tyree, and Francis Walling. Interment was at Chester cemetery.
