W.L. POWELL DIES IN MONTEZUMA
Many Grinnell friends will regret to learn of the death of Willard L. Powell, who passed away Thursday morning at his home in Montezuma, aged eighty five years. Mr. Powell was an old soldier and a respected citizen. He had been one of the leading citizens of Montezuma for thirty five years, most of which time he has been in the grocery business. He sold the business a few years ago to his son Ben. Mr. Powell was born in Charlottsville, Va., and served during the Civil War in the Confederate army as a member of Pickett's famous brigade but was esteemed by the G.A.R. members of Montezuma and included in all their social affairs. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. E.D. Rayburn of Montezuma and Mrs. John Bryan of Centerville and his son Ben.
