ELLEN WORTHY RITES TODAY
Ellen Worthy, 79, of Marshalltown, formerly of Grinnell, died Monday evening at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James P. Russell, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers will be Dale Foster, Jerry Holland, Mark Hunziker, Tom Rudkin, Brian Worthy, and John Worthy. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
The daughter of Edward and Lydia Coleman Brubaker, she was born Sept. 7, 1899, at Oskaloosa. She attended schools in Oskaloosa, graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1919.
On June 18, 1919, she was married to Herbert E. Worthy at Oskaloosa. They had farmed near Grinnell since 1939, moving to Grinnell in 1957. They moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in December 1978.
Mrs. Worthy is survived by her husband; her children, Mrs. Kenneth (Marjorie) Cloyed of Ottumwa, Mrs. Reldon (Vivian) Hance of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Russell (Francene) Sears of Grinnell, Keith Worthy of Grinnell, Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Rudkin of Des Moines, Curtis Worthy of Burlington, Mrs. Ernest (Adah) Hunziker of Sully, and Mrs. Pete (Donna) Holland of Pella; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Brubaker of Ottumwa and Ray Brubaker of Grinnell; and three sisters, Mrs. Dale (May) Lane of North English, Mrs. William (Alice) Shannon of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. John (Caryl) Augustine of Eddyville. She was preceded in death by her parents, three children nd three grandchildren.
