RITES HELD FOR MR. MITCHELL
Robert Mitchell, 86, of Grinnell died early Thursday, Dec. 18, at Friendship Manor.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raymond C. Lott officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Mark Doyle, M. Blayne Doyle, Timothy Doyle, Ann Debbert, Martha Mitchell, Sarah Feyerherm, Susan Smith and Laura Mitchell. Honorary bearers were members of Hermon Masonic Lodge No.273 A.F. & A.M. Burial was in Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell.
The son of Charles and Alma Tucker Mitchell, he was born on Jan. 23, 1900, at Searsboro. He attended Searsboro schools.
On Feb. 12, 1924, he was married to Cecile Lowry in Grinnell. Mr. Mitchell worked as an electrician for Iowa Southern Utilities Co. for 29 years.
He was active in Masonic circles, holding membership in Hermon Masonic Lodge, Beulah Chaper No. 47, Order of Eastern Star, of which he was past patron; Royal Arch Masons; King Solomon Council No. 202 of Marshalltown; and the Oriental Commandery No. 22 of Newton. He was a life member of the Iowa Demolay Foundation. He was also a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Cecile; one daughter, Marjorie Ann Doyle of Grinnell; a son, Roger L. Mitchell of Columbia, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ernest F. Mitchell; and a sister Edna L. Mortland.
