CECILE MITCHELL

Cecile Mitchell, 93, of Grinnell died Saturday, Sept. 19, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with Dr. Roger L. Mitchell and Marjorie A. Doyle, Mrs. Mitchell's children, conducting the service. Burial was in Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of George and Rose Etta Catterson Lowry and was born Feb. 18, 1899, in Taintor. She attended rural school and graduated from New Sharon High School in 1918. Following her education, she taught rural school near Grinnell.

On Feb. 12, 1924, she was married to Robert T. Mitchell in Grinnell. The couple lived in Grinnell.

Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and a charter member of the United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Beulah Chapter No. 47, the Courtesy Club and the Literary Clan.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie A. Doyle of Grinnell; one son, Dr. Roger L. Mitchell of Columbia, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Tom Lowry of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Howard Lowry; and one sister, Gayle Grosenbach.
