George Pulaski Grinnell was born at New Haven, Vermont, April 14, 1845, and died in Grinnell December 25, 1924 from apoplexy. He was ill only 8 days.

He came to Grinnell with his brother and sisters in 1856--when the town was just 2 years old. He has made this his home ever since.

He was married to Dora Hitchcock, April 2, 1884 at Morrison, Ill. They have lived happily here in Grinnell all these more than 40 years.

For many years he was connected with his cousin J.B. Grinnell in building railroads--both in Iowa and Illinois. After the railroads were completed they engaged in the raising of blooded stock, horses, sheep and hogs. After 1880 they engaged for considerable time in buying cattle.

In 1864 he enlisted in Co. B 46th Iowa infantry with many of the young men of the town, under Col. Henderson. Prof. Parker was their Lieutenant and he had also been their school-teacher.

Mr. Grinnell was noted at home and around about as a wit and a story teller. He has lived a good life, was a man of sterling honor and has entered into his reward.

Funeral services were held at his late home on Summer street, Saturday afternoon at 2:30.

Those who came from out of town to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Cronk and sons Ruggles and Gordon of Montour, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Bartlett and J.A. Roach of Tama. These five men and J.B. Grinnell of this community acted as pall bearers, all of them being nephews.
