CLARA ALERTSEN FUNERAL SATURDAY

Clara Alertsen, 89, of 500 Broad Street in Grinnell, passed away Wednesday evening at a local hospital.

She was born November 29, 1877, at Malcom, Iowa, the daughter of Eberhard and Louise Larsen. She attended the Malcom Community schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran faith.

On July 1, 1903, she was united in marriage to John Alertsen at her parents' home near Malcom. To this union were born four children: Earl, Orville, Clinton and Anna Wiley. Following their marriage, the Alertsens farmed until 1947 when they retired and moved to Grinnell.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Anna Wiley of Grinnell, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Anna Halstead of Grinnell, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Earl Alertsen of Malcom. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, six sisters and her three sons.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alertsen will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. The Rev. Chester E. Custer will officiate, and interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
