MEMORIAL SERVICES HELD FOR IDA ZIRBEL MCCLURE

MALCOM (Special): Memorial services were held Sept. 16 at the United Presbyterian Church for Ida Zirbel McClure, 97, who died Sept. 13 at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

The Rev. A.G. Rugger, pastor of the Malcom church, and Dr. C.C. Richardson, a nephew of Edina, Minn., officiated.

Mrs. Keith Stahl, vocalist, was accompanied by Pamela Hall, organist. Pallbearers were Richard Wichman, Clifford Wichman, Sonny Schneekloth, Edward Barnes, Walter Puls and Ralph Wentzel. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Tarvin and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mann.

Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom with Bramer Funeral Home in charge.

The daughter of Albert and Sophia Utich Zirbel, Mrs. McClure was born Oct. 27, 1873 at Lostant, Ill. She came to Iowa in 1884 with her parents and the family settled on a farm five miles northwest of Montezuma. She attended the rural schools in Illinois and Iowa.

On Aug. 26, 1903, she was married to Samuel McClure of Malcom. The couple farmed in the Malcom community later moving to Malcom.

Mrs. McClure was united with the Methodist Church of Montezuma later transferring her membership to the Malcom United Presbyterian Church where she was a loyal member. She was an officer of the Malcom Ladies Cemetery Association for a number of years.

Mr. McClure died April 9, 1907. In 1918, Mrs. McClure moved to Newton where she lived while her son attended high school. After he graduated in 1922, she moved to Colorado hoping her son's health would improve. She lived at Rye and Fort Collins in Colorado. Her son, Wade Lester, died Jan. 25, 1948.

In 1963, Mrs. McClure came back to Iowa living in the Grinnell community until 16 months ago when she moved to the Brookhaven Nursing home.

Mrs. McClure was the last member of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son; her parents; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Duffus; and nine brothers--William, August, John, Emil, Henry, Charles, Glenn (Albert), Lewis, and one in infancy.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lewis Zirbel; 14 nieces; six nephews, and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews.
