FORMER RESIDENT MRS. MAMIE ZIRBEL DIES IN WEST

Mrs. Mamie Zirbel, 70, former area resident, died suddenly Monday at Hawthorne, Calif.

Funeral services will be held Saturday in Hawthorne with burial Monday in Hazelwood cemetery here. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home Sunday evening.

She was born June 27, 1891, near Malcom, the daughter of Eberhart and Martha Larsen. She received her early education in the Malcom area and later attended the Grinnell Academy.

For a time she taught school and later was married to Chester Zirbel. To this union were born four children, all of whom survive: Mrs. Ervin (Martha) Gaines of Boston, Mass.; Virgil Zirbel of Hawthorne, Calif.; Mrs. Steve (Colleen) Salem and Cliff Zirbel, both of Manhattan Beach, Calif.

In addition to her children, she is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Anna T. Halstead and Mrs. John Alertsen, both of Grinnell, and Mrs. Lillie Bell of Des Moines. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Zirbel moved from the Grinnell area to Hawthorne, Calif., about 35 years ago. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
