LAST SERVICES FOR MRS. HADLEY ARE HELD MON.

On the twentieth day of June in 1878, in the Sugar Creek neighborhood, near Grinnell, Poweshiek county, Iowa, a little black eyed daughter was born to Owen W. and Melissa Jessup Kenworthy, to whom they gave the name of Estella. When quite young her parents moved to a farm near Hubbard, Iowa. A few years later they moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she attended the public schools and grew to young womanhood.

On June 14, 1899, she was united in marriage with Riley J. Hadley of Indianola, Nebraska, where they made their home for five years. In 1904 they moved to a farm near Grinnell, Iowa, where they continued to live, except for a period of four years which were spent on a farm near Oskaloosa, Iowa.

She delighted in her home which she and her husband greatly enjoyed sharing with others and many are the friends, young and old, who have been blessed by their hospitality.

Because of the ill health of her mother and the care of an aged grandmother, Mrs. Hadley was denied the privilege of an advanced education which she would so much have prized. Nevertheless, she was an educated woman, having taken advantage of every benefit to be derived from association with the faculty and the students of Penn college. She was a great lover of beauty in nature, music and art, and from these she drew lessons which enriched her spirit. She was a birthright member of the Friends church and very early in life she was converted and ever since has been vitally interested in the church and its activities, serving in various official capacities. Her special interest was in the cause of missions. For three consecutive years she was chosen president of the Women's Missionary Union of Iowa Yearly Meeting; to this work she gave lavishly of her time, strength and ability, until, because of failing health, she was compelled to give up the work so dear to her heart.

Through some five years of suffering she maintained a cheerful outlook on life, hoping to again be able to resume her active duties. But despite all that could be done by medical skill and loving care, these hopes were not to be realized and on the evening of January 31, 1935, she closed her eyes to things of earth and entered into the more abundant life.

There remain to cherish the memory of her life, her husband, Riley J. Hadley; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred McDowell of Grinnell, and Leona and the son, Corwin, at home, and one grandson, Raymond McDowell; also her aged father, Owen W. Kenworthy of Garden Grove, California; a sister, Mrs. Mabel K. Raymond of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother, Waldo V. Kenworthy of Oak Park, Ill,. and a sister, Mrs. Dorelda Ervin of Long Beach, Calif.; three uncles, L. Estes Kenworthy, Denver, Colorado; Luther G. Kenworthy, Yakima, Wash., and Truman C. Kenworthy, Richmond, Indiana, and one aunt, Mrs. Anna K. Kitch, Cherokee, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held from the First Friends church Monday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Moses T. Mendenhall of Gilman, and Rev. Carrie A. Butler. Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Conover rendered two beautiful numbers in song. The pallbearers were Ralph Rutherford, Ben Buck, Ralph Longley, Russell Baggs, Newt Hartzell, and Thomas Mason.

Those in attendance from a distance were Mrs. Mabel K. Raymond, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Mr. Waldo V. Kenworhty, Oak Park, Ill.; Mrs. Anna K. Kitch, Cherokee, Okla.; Mr. Elam J. Hadley, Washington, D.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Elihu Jessup, Mr. and Mrs. Isom P. Jessup, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Jessup of Union, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs.Lyman Collins of Clemons; Mrs. Callie O. Dimmitt, Mrs. Margaret Latham and Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Latham of LeGrand; also many friends from nearby communities.

Immediately following this service the funeral party drove to Oskaloosa. At 2:30 a service was held in the College Avenue Friends church, where Mrs. Hadley had had especial delight in service and fellowship. Rev. Moses T. Mendenhall was assisted by Rev. Ermin c. Perisho. A mixed quartette sang. Interment was made in Forest cemetery.
