AN OLD TIME RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Mary Cornelia McCoy was born in New York state, Jan. 30, 1854, the daughter of Daniel M. and Cornelia Bodley McCoy. She was the second of a family of four children, Daniel H. and Eugene M. having preceded her in death. A sister, Mrs. Carrie Welch, still lives in Marshalltown. The family was among the pioneers of Chester township. She was married Nov. 10, 1873, to Clayton Clark Holmes. One daughter was born to them, Florence, now the wife of M.L. Sanders. Mr. Holmes passed away Oct. 22, 1878. Mrs. Holmes made her home in Grinnell and also in Chester, caring for her mother for many years and later she removed to Benson, Minn., and with Mrs. Sanders and family came to Pasadena in 1922.
She passed away March 26, 1936. The funeral was held March 28 at the chapel of Reynolds and Eberle, conducted by Rev. N.C. Wallin of Pilgrim Congregational church and ritualistic service of the W.R.C.
The beautiful flora tributes testified to the love of many friends and a long and useful life.
Surviving members of the family are her daughter, Mrs. Sanders, a grandson, Kenneth Sanders, a granddaughter, Mrs. Marcella Copping and a great grandson, Norman Carl Copping.
