J.P. BOYCE PASSES IN OHIO
The friends of Jarvis P. Boyce were greatly shocked to hear of his sudden death which took place at Richmond, Ohio, where he and his wife were spending a vacation. He had been working on the farm and had just finished pitching a load of timothy bundles to take to the threshing machine when he fell backwards and died almost immediately. He is survived by his wife, and two children, Clyde C. Boyce of Wenatchee and Mrs. Fred Sanger of Leavenworth, Washington.
Mr. Boyce was a railroad engineer in the service of the M.& St.L. R.R. He had been with the company for forty-three years. He was born in Wisconsin, Aug. 27, 1857, and at the time of his death lacked one day of being seventy-three years of age. When a boy of seven years he moved to Iowa and settled in Floyd Co. near the old town of Bradford. As a boy he attended Sunday School at the church which afterwards became famous as the "Little Brown Church in the Vale." He was a member of the Methodist church in Grinnell.
Funeral services will be held in the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. It is expected that many of his fellow employees of the railroad will be present. Members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers will serve as pall bearers. Burial will be in Hazelwood.
Mr. Boyce was one of the real railroad men in this community and state. He was not only faithful to his duties but he was a high minded man with aspirations and faithful and square in his dealings with his fellow men. His duties kept him from home a good deal because Grinnell was not a terminus. He remained in Grinnell when it would have been more convenient for him to have lived in a neighboring town. The railroad has lost a faithful servant. Grinnell has lost an estimable citizen and his family has lost a loyal man and a large circle have lost a true friend.
