well Known Grinnell Man Dies at an Advanced Age.

Funeral services for the late Charles J. Sanders will be held at the Christian church, Saturday morning a 11 o'clock. Burial will be made at Montezuma.

Charles Jacob Sanders was born in Trumbell County, Ohio, April 30, 1850. He was the son of Henry and Hettie Sanders, both natives of Pennsylvania. They journeyed westward and settled in Poweshiek county and remained there until 1858. After the father's death in Dallas county Texas in 1860, the mother with nine children returned to Poweshiek county, making the journey by ox team and located at Deep River.

In 1871 Mr. Sanders returned to Ohio where he married Susan Campbell, who preceded him in death nineteen years ago.

After eight years he returned to Poweshiek county and was occupied in farming for 31 years purchasing a farm in Pleasant township. He then moved to Grinnell and there lived and worked among friends in the church and community until his death which occured at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines Wednesday, December 13. He had undergone an operation on the Thursday previous and was thought to be recovering until the last day.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanders were blessed with five children; one son, William, and one daughter, Williamina died in infancy; Charles H., accidentally killed at Kansas City, December 21, 1919; one son, Frank, now living on a farm near Montezuma, and one daughter, Mrs. Willis Martz, of Grinnell. There are also eight grand-children, and six great-grand-children.

For many years Mr. Sanders has been a faithful member and worker in the Christian church. His last days of life were gladdend by the many words of love that reached him while at the hospital. The attending nurse reports his last words to have been,"It's God's Command.."
