FRANCES SCURR SERVICES TODAY

Frances V. Scurr, 80, of Rte. 2, Gilman, died Thursday evening, Feb. 24, at a Marshalltown nursing home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at the smith Fuenral Home, with the Rev. Jerry C. Cassiday, pastor of the Gilman Community Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist will be Frank Shults.

Pallbearers will be Susan and Dale Anthony, Kathy and Terry Ferguson, James Buitendorp, Mianne Mitchell, Joseph Scurr and Steven Scurr. Honorary bearers will be Lester Ashing, Neven Crandon, Wilbur Crandon, Axel Hanson, Paul Harms, Dr. K.L. Hoefert, Art Peterson and F.W. Tomasek.

Fraternal rites will be conducted by members of Beulah Chapter No. 47, Order of Eastern Star. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

Memorials in Mrs. Scurr's name may be made to Grinnell General Hospital or the Gilman Community Church and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of the Rev. Oliver and Nora White Lippincott, she was born April 3, 1902, at Blanchard. She attended schools in Sheldon, Indianola and Gilman. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids and worked as a nurse for St. Luke's, the former Community Hospital in Grinnell and Friendship Manor.

On July 31, 1926, she was married to Joseph Clark Scurr at Crown Point, Ind. The couple lived at West Bend, moving to Grinnell in 1937. They moved to the Gilman-area farm in 1957.

Mrs. Scurr was a member of the Gilman Community Church, the Women's Guild, the Gilman Senior Citizens Club, the Women's Club and the Searchlight Club of Grinnell, and she was a 50-year member and past worthy matron of Beulah Chaper No. 47, Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her children, Nancy Buitendorp of Grinnell and Harry Scurr of Gilman; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark, in December 1982; two sisters, Iru Hanson and Fern McGregor; and two brothers, Otis and Olin Lippincott.
