MARION E. TEMPLETON

Marion E. Templeton, 81, of Grinnell died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service was held Saturday, July 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell with the Rev. Kathy Roys, pastor of the church, officiating. Pallbearers were Gene Broders, Terry Cline, Norm Erickson, Vic Frana, Dale Lamb and Don Sundell. Honorary bearers were Callie, Brooks, Nathan and Nick Templeton. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.

The daughter of Ernest and Mabel Schur Kettler, she was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Waterman, Ill. She was raised on a farm near Waterman and was a 1944 graduate of Waterman High School. Following her education, she served as a secretary at DeKalb Agricultural Association in Waterman for 14 years. On April 11, 1958, she was united in marriage with Jack Templeton in Hinkley, Ill. They lived in Waterman prior to moving to Grinnell in 1959, where she was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church where she was active with Autumn Leaves and Mary Martha Circle, serving as treasurer. She was a 30-year volunteer at Grinnell Regional Medical Center and a volunteer for Caring Adults. In 1995, she received the "Leave It Better Than You Found It" award from the Ahrens Foundation in Grinnell.

She was well known for giving rides, providing groceries and assisting the elderly or others in need. She enjoyed gardening, canning and taking care of and walking her dogs, and was considered a fantastic cook and hostess for family gatherings.

She is survived b her husband Jack of Grinnell; two sons, Mark Templeton of West Des Moines and Scott Templeton of Kirksville, Mo.; one brother, Kenneth Kettler of Nampa, Idaho; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Henry Kettler.
