VINCENT HOTCHKIN SERVICES TODAY

Vincent D. Hotchkin, 77, of Rte. 4, Grinnell, died early Friday at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of William A. and Mary Ellen Dowling Hotchkin, he was born on July 19, 1893, on a farm northwest of Newton. He attended the rural schools of that community.

On Jan. 29, 1918, he married Edna Brooke in Grinnell. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Jasper and Poweshiek counties. He retired from active farming five years ago. He was a member of the Grinnell Elks Lodge and the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife Edna; two sons, Stanley of Newton and Roger of Independence, Mo.; two grandchildren, Gary of Oak Grove, Mo., and Susan Fields of Independence; one great-grandson, Scott; a brother, Odo Hotchkin of Fairfield; and one sister, Mrs. William (Irene) Devereaux of Adair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Eddie, Willie, Francis and Charley; and an infant sister.

Funeral services for Mr. Hotchkin were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Beebe and the Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and Mrs. Donald Hull and Mrs. Laverne Morrison served on the flower committee.

Pallbearers included Donald Hull, Laverne Morrison, Carter Tucker, Raymond Olson, Howard Edwards and Carl Child. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
