OLGA ROSELAND RITES THURSDAY

Olga B. Roseland, 86, of 95 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died of a stroke Monday afternoon, March 24, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raynond Lott of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Michael Gustafson, Max Clements, Roger Innis, Wesley D. Meyer, Steve Niester and Lewis Opdahl. Honorary bearers were Oliver Lande Jr., Ernest Opdahl, Leonard Pederson, Richard Strate and Steve Zarndt. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Roseland's name may be made to the United Methodist Church and left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Ole J. and Bertha Pederson Opdahl Akre, she was born on May 7, 1899. She attended Grinnell schools. On March 25, 1918, she was married to Ralph Arthur Roseland at her parents' home near Malcom. The couple lived in Goodwin, S.D. and near Ewart before coming to Grinnell in 1933. Mrs. Roseland baked pies for local restaurants while living here.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the O.B.C. Club, the Literary Clan, the Grandmother's Club and the Reading Club. Following her husband's death she worked as a house mother for a fraternity at Drake University for seven years. She later lived in Marshalltown before returning to Grinnell.

Survivors include a son, Norman of West Des Moines; one daughter, Colleen Niester of Malcom; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1959; a son, Richard, in infancy; one brother, Perry Akre; two sisters, Emma Lande and Jennie Clements; and three half-brothers, Bert, Olie and Peter Opdahl.
