ELDON FRANK AUDAS

Eldon Frank Audas, 79, of Newton died Sunday, June 7, 2009, in the Monarch Room at Skiff Medcial Center in Newton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 10, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. David Rex, pastor of Metz Community Church in Newton, officiating. Eulogist was Eldon "Bud" Audas. Pallbearers were Tony Lee Audas, Walter Ponce, Dave and Tim Cottrell, David Shinn, and Dave Burch. Honorary bearers were Byron Sharp, Walter Ponce II, Don L. Audas, Jr., and Tony Audas, Jr. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldon F. Audas Memorial Fund.

He was born June 27, 1929, in Brooklyn to Frank and Irene Dayton Audas. He was raised in Brooklyn and was a 1947 graduate of Brooklyn High School. He was a master electrician who started his career at Iowa Southern Utilities in Grinnell and ended his career at Nabisco in Buena Park, Calif., where he retired in 1986, then moving back to Newton.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bernice Audas of Newton; four daughters, Doris Ann Eames of Gilman, Norma Lynch of Marshalltown, Mary Retter of Gilman, and Cheryl Hughes of Newton; three sons, Eldon "Dick" Audas of Omaha, Steven Bailey of Grinnell, and Eldon "Bud" Audas of Des Moines; one brother, Max Audas of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Dona Eisher of Henderson, Nevada; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor in infancy and Eunice Saylor; and one brother, Don L. Audas, Sr.
