ALTA DUNCAN SERVICES HELD

Alta Duncan, 83, of 727 E. Eighth St. S., Newton, died Sunday, Feb. 10, at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.

Funeral services were conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Schutte, associate pastor of the Newton Assembly of God Church officiating. Organist was Nan Schutte. Pallbearers were Steve Bailey, David Cottrell, Gerald Duncan, David Elliott, Melvin Handeland and James Mitchell.

Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The daughter of Albert and Amanda Winland Vaughn, she was born on May 16, 1901, at Lineville. She was educated in rural schools near the family farm.

On Oct. 10,1918, she was married to Perry Orvil Duncan at Leon. The couple farmed near Lineville until 1929 when they moved to Grinnell. Following her husband's death in 1975, she moved to Newton.

She is survived by her children, Amanda Cottrell and Kenneth E. Duncan, both of Newton, Ann Cogley of LaMirada, Calif., and Bernice Audas of Whittier, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Marley Vaughn of Ravanna, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two children, Cleveland Duncan and Charles Duncan; three sisters, Lillie Rutherford, Letha Booth and Blanche Frisbee; and two brothers, Wilbert Vaughn and Ogie (Jock) Vaughn.
