ALLEN RITES HELD IN CALIFORNIA

Robert Allen, a former Grinnell resident who was living in La Mirada, Calif., died Feb. 25 of cancer.

Funeral services for Robert Allen were held on Wednesday, March 1. Music at the services was provided by Ken Jones and accompanist Trudy Lingo. Wallace K. Chum, past Fourth District Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars officiated at the services.

Rosary was held at Chapel of Memories in Norwalk Tuesday evening, with Fr. Owen Jinks presiding. Burial was in Olive Lawn Memorial Cemetery in La Mirada.

Born near Newton on April 9, 1925, he was the son of John and Zoa Daniels Allen. He served in the navy during World War II, and on Oct. 5, 1946 married Dorothy Cogley of Grinnell in Rhodes, Iowa. The family moved to California in April of 1951.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Allen Jr. in 1960. Surviving him are his wife; three sons, Michael Dennis of North Hollywood, Calif., Patrick John of Grinnell, and David Lee of Whittier, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Marie, of La Mirada; a granddaughter and a step-granddaughter; and three sisters, Alice Strovers of Kellogg, Margie Lewellyn of Las Vegas, and Mary Emmert of Grinnell.
