GROVER M. LOFTIN

Grover Michael "Mike" Loftin, 60, of Grinnell died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at his home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at Herrick Chapel on the Grinnell College campus with the Rev. Herb Knudten, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Malcom, officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Malcom. Friends may call at Smith Funeral Home Friday beginning at noon with family members present to greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Grover Michael Loftin Memorial Fund to benefit several organizations of his family's choice. He was born July 14, 1948 in Grinnell, the son of Grover Junior Loftin and Faye Gross Loftin. He was raised on the family farm near Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1966. He then received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

He was united in marriage with Dena Proctor on Aug. 3, 1966, in Grinnell. They resided on the Loftin family farm and he was a district seed salesman for Kruger Seed Company and a life-long breeder of Hampshire hogs. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Poweshiek County 4-H. He enjoyed golf, travel and attending hog shows throughout the country.

He is survived by his wife Dena Loftin of Grinnell; his son and daughters, Grover Matthew Loftin of San Antonio, Texas, Anne Loftin of Rock Island, Ill.; Jill Loftin of Lakewood, Colo., and Diedra Coleman of Chicago, Ill.; his parents, Grover and Faye Loftin of Grinnell; his sister Julie Loftin of Grinnell and his two Dachshunds, Cinnamon and Daisy. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Todd Loftin who died in infancy on Oct. 4, 1966.
