GROVER LOFTIN RITES TUESDAY

Grover Loftin Sr., 93, died Friday afternoon, July 12, at the home of his son, LaVerne Loftin, where he had been living for the past 1-1/2 years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Malcom, with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The son of Thomas and Mary Jane Hartline Loftin, he was born Nov. 13, 1891, at Troutman, N.C. He attended rural schools in North Carolina, coming to the Malcom area in 1915 to work on area farms.

On July 5, 1916, he was married to Rosa Snook at Iowa City. The couple farmed in the Malcom, Chester and Sheridan areas until buying their farm east of Grinnell in 1925.

Mr. Loftin was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Brotherhood and, until his health failed, B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1266 in Grinnell. He and his wife moved to Grinnell in 1947.

Survivors include two sons, Grover of Grinnell and LaVerne of Rte. 3; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, David of New Sharon, John of Aransas, Texas, and Guy of Troutman, N.C. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa, on Ot. 22, 1970.
