HELEN PEDERSEN

Helen S. Pedersen, 86, West Lafayette, Ind., formerly of Grinnell, died Aug. 1 in Home Hospital in West Lafayette.

A funeral service was held Aug. 6 in Our Saviour Lutheran Church, West Lafayette, of which she was member with interment in Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church Building Fund, Home Hospital Nursing Scholarship Fund or West Lafayette Tree Fund.

She was born April 9, 1907, in Promise City and graduated from high school there. She also graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, and attended American University, Washingon, D.C. She was an elementary school teacher and a homemaker.

She was married June 21, 1929, in Washington to Lawrence B. Pedersen. The Pedersens resided in Grinnell for 36 years before moving to Peoria, Ariz. Mrs. Pedersen moved to West Lafayette following the death of her husband Dec. 19, 1985, and had been a resident of Davis Manor for seven years before moving to Home Hospital Extended Care three years ago.

She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church throughout her residency here. She was a past president of the board of directors of the former Community Hospital and a member of the Grinnell League of Women Voters, the P.E.O. Sisterhood and Entre Nous.

She is survived by two daughters, Sonya Margerum, mayor of West Lafayette, and Karen Pedersen, Arvada, Colo.; three grandsons; one great grandson and one brother Doyle Alexander, Honolulu, Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and one brother.
