MRS. SARAH HUMMEL

Mrs. Sarah Hummel, wife of Seth Hummel, of Marshalltown, formerly of Des Moines and near Grinnell, died at her home at 7:30 Wednesday night of apoplexy. Mrs. Hummel had been failing for two years but she had been confined to her bed only since she was stricken a week ago. The family moved there from Des Moines a little more than a year ago. For a number of years before moving to Des Moines Mr. and Mrs. Hummel lived near Grinnell. Mrs. Hummel's maiden name was Sarah Moore. She was born in Ontario, Canada, April 1, *1861, and became the wife of Mr. Hummel at Glidden, Nov. 12, 1879. She was the mother of nine children, four of whom, in addition to the husband, survive her. The children are, Franklin M. Hummel, and Mrs. Fred Walker, Marshalltown, and Chester V. Hummel and Seth R. Hummel, Newburg. A son, Kenneth O., died at Newburg six years ago. Three brothers, Charles Moore of Belmond; Young Moore of Glidden and Ross Moore, of Carroll, also survive her. Mr. and Mrs. Hummel had also taken two orphan girls when they were about three years old and gave them a home. They reached the age of eighteen just recently. They are known as Martha and Mary.

Mrs. Hummel was a member of the Presbyterian church of Grinnell.

Prayer service was held at the home at Marshalltown, yesterday afternoon.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn. Interment in Hazelwood.
