RUBY MCILRATH

Ruby J. McIlrath, 83, of 1406 Spring St., Grinnell, died Sunday, July 7, at Friendship Manor Care Centre.

Funeral services were conduced Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Ron Nutt and John Wilson officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalists were Jim Lemmer and Rick Swanson. Pallbearers were Dale Anthony, Monte Latham, Jim McIlrath, Stan McIlrath, Dennis Winchell and Larry Winchell.

Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman. Memorials may be made to Hospice Grinnell.

The daughter of James and Elizabeth Houseman McIlrath, she was born June 13, 1908, near Newburg. She graduated from Newburg High School in 1927 and received her teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. She taught rural school near Gilman, and for many years she also cared for her parents.

Surviving are one brother, Harley McIlrath of Grinnell, and three sisters, Emma Claybrook of Dunbar and Mabel Tharp and Lucille Anthony, both of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Jack and Sara Maurer; and two brothers, James and John McIlrath.
