WELL KNOWN BROOKLYN BUILDER PASSES AWAY

Art Coburn, 61 died suddenly at his home in north Brooklyn last Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Coburn came to Brooklyn to establish a home 27 years ago. Here he and his wife raised their family of six children. He was a carpenter and contractor of real ability and built many of Brooklyn's best homes, including the Landes and McAra properties, most of the buildings on High street and many others.

He assisted in building the field-house and medical building at the State University of Iowa a few years ago, and the Montezuma school house. From 1923 to 1925 Mr. Coburn was working in Florida. Among his last jobs was the fixing of the front of the Montgomery Motor building this fall and the building of the new pump-house for the city, completed a month or six weeks ago.

Art Coburn had many friends from long residence and business connections in Brooklyn who will miss him greatly and who extend sympathy to the grief stricken family.

Arthur L. Coburn, son of John and Amanda Brackett Coburn, was born on a farm near Montezuma, April 3, 1870. He died at his home in Brooklyn Dec. 30, 1931. Age, 61 years, 8 months, 21 days.

He grew to manhood on his father's farm and when a young man united with the Montezuma Methodist Episcopal church, where his membership was held at the time of his death.

On Feb. 10, 1904, he was united in marriage at Newton to Miss Mattie E. Jacobs of Grinnell. Their new home was established in Brooklyn, where they have resided since that time.

The deceased is survived by his wife, six children, Harold, Mildred, Kenneth, Donald, Dorothy and Beulah; five brothers, Ira of Montana; Thomas of Kellogg, William and Jesse of Emmetsburg, and Ulysses of New York City; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Chamberlain of Grinnell, and Mrs. Adeline Golly of Washington, Iowa, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday at the M.E. church with the Rev. R.G. Nye in charge. Interment was in the Montezuma cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clair Crider, Walt Fraser, Gordon Cronk, Clem DeMeulenaere, F.L. Neff and F. Lineweaver.

Relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Tom Coburn of Kellogg, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Coker of Malcom, Kate Chamberlain of Grinnell, Mr. and Mrs Carl Stachill of Grinnell, Mr. and Mrs. Hub Jacobs also of Grinnell, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Jacobs of Newton and Mildred Coburn of Des Moines.
