HENRY LAUBER SERVICES HELD

Henry Lauber, 81, of 1107 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died late Sunday evening at Grinnell General Hospital. He had lived in Grinnell since last June.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Elzey, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kellogg, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Leo Ahrens, James E. Adkins, Virgil Doud, Dennis Grovenburg, Ronald Probasco and Leon Wilson. Burial was at Rock Creek Cemetery.

Henry Lauber was born in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, on June 30, 1897, the son of George Philip and Elizabeth Barbara Diehm Lauber. He attended the rural schools near the family farm and married Pearl Young in Grinnell on Jan. 5, 1921.

The couple continued to live in the Rock Creek community, where Mr. Lauber was a Past Master of the Victor Grange and was a director of the Grant Township Rural Schools. He was also a longtime member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl, and his children: Mrs. Max (Lois) Crawford of Grinnell, Mrs. Merle (Doris) Winchell of Grinnell, Mrs. Richard (Berneice) Fritz of Kearney, Neb., Mrs. Donald (Jacqueline) Gregson of Livermore, Calif., Duane Lauber of Newton, Mrs. Larry (Donna) German of Grinnell, Mrs. James (Marilyn) Mitchell of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Louis (Joan) Houck of Dallas, Tex., Ronald Crawford of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Carol Lauber of Boulder, Colo. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as one brother and two sisters, Harry Lauber of Waterloo, Mrs. Floyd (Elsie) Wheeler of LeClaire, and Mrs. Theresa Anna Marie Edwards of Kellogg.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Merlin D. Lauber in infancy, and Keith L. Lauber in 1964; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Johnson; and two brothers, Valentine Lauber and Frederick Lauber.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Grinnell General Hospital and left at the Smith Funeral Home.
