The Grinnell (IA) Herald; April 28, 1908

Edward Young was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, March 21, 1822, and departed this life April 16, 1908, aged eighty-six years and twenty-six days, after an illness of only a few days. Death was caused by cerebral hemorrhage.

He was married to Jane Parmley February 28, 1841, and to this union were born nine children, six boys and three girls, as follows: G.W., Robert, A.B., M.E., G.P., Bolen E., Mrs. Blazora Belles, Mrs. Armelda Phipps. G.W., Robert, A.B. and Bolen E. preceded him to their long home.

He moved to Iowa in April, 1865, and settled in Jasper county, on a farm west of Grinnell. He was one of the earliest settlers and proved to be a very prosperous farmer. Until about three years ago he was in good physical health. He was then taken sick with partial paralysis of the brain, from which he never entirely recovered. During all his following illness his family did all they could for him and were untiring in their efforts. But about a year ago they saw they could no longer take care of him, so he was taken to Mt. Pleasant to be treated and there he died. In his last hours his youngest son, G.P. Young of this city, was with him. The older son, Elder M.E. Young, was unable to be there until after his death.

The remains were brought to Grinnell and buried in the Baptist cemetery west of the city. He leaves a kind and aged companion, two sons, and three daughters to mourn his loss besides many friends.

Mr. Young was a kind and obliging neighbor and never tired in his efforts for his family.

The service was conducted at the Baptist church west of Grinnell by Elders Robert Keeton and Fred Elmore, after which he was followed to the cemetery by a large concourse of friends, who thus testified the high esteem in which he was held.
