LAST RITES FOR JOHN DHONDT HELD TUESDAY

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church at Grinnell for Johnnie Dhondt, resident here 25 years. Mr. Dhondt died Saturday of a heart condition.

At the final rites, Mrs. Robert Anderson and Mrs. Gail Burke were in charge of floral arrangements. Pallbearers were Sam Neff, Jack Norris, Keith Halstead, Clem Daniels, Louis DeCaster and John Minneart.

Native of Brooklyn, where he was baptized, Mr. Dhondt was born April 18, 1907. He attended school at Victor where he lived until coming to Grinnell 25 years ago. He was married Dec. 18, 1929 to Helen Young at Grinnell.

Mr. Dhondt was a prominent cattle buyer and livestock dealer. He was a member of the Catholic church, Holy Name Society, Poweshiek County Farm Bureau, Eagles and Elks Lodges.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; a son, Gary, in the armed forces; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Grimm of Deep River and Mrs. Jennie Carney of Victor; and three brothers, Mel of Montezuma, Peter of Colfax and Ted of Kellogg.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dhondt, and two brothers, Frank Jr., and William J., twins.

Burial was at Hazelwood cemetery with McAninch Funeral Home of Victor in charge of arrangements.
