PEARL LAUBER

Pearl Lauber, 98, of Grinnell died Saturday, Oct. 27, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Del Dawes, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist was Marty Duffus. Pallbearers were Ron, Max, and Steve Crawford; Mike Winchell; Moyle Fritz; David and Bob Gregson; Mark, Gregory and Jeffrey Lauber; Randy, Rick and Scott German; and Kevin Mitchell.

Interment was at Rock Creek Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Vester Lee and Ada Belle Rice Young and was born Nov. 13, 1902, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. She was raised in the area and received her education in the Grinnell school district.

She was married to Henry Lauber Jan. 5, 1921, in Grinnell, and the couple farmed in the Rock Creek community. They moved to Grinnell in 1978, and Mrs. Lauber became a resident of Friendship Manor in September 2000.

She was a member of the Victor Grange, VFW Auxiliary and Jasper County Farm Bureau. She was baptized in the Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children, Lois Crawford of Grinnell, Doris Winchell of Grinnell, Berneice Fritz of Palm Harbor, Fla., Jacqueline Gregson of Livermore, Calif., Duane of Newton, Donna German of Grinnell, Marilyn Mitchell of Las Vegas, Nev., Joan Rowland of Dallas, Texas, and Carol Lauber of Lafayette, Colo.; a grandson, Ronald Crawford of Grinnell, who was raised in her home; 30 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Merlin in infancy and Keith; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
