HENRY HANS SIEHL

Henry Hans Siehl was born in Germany, April 20th, 1845 and died at the home of his son six miles east of Gilman, Oct. 25th, 1913, aged 68 years, six months and five days.

In 1873 he was united in marriage to Mary Kroeger. To this union nine children were born six of whom survive him. In 1880, with his wife and one living child, he came to America, settling in Scott County, Iowa. Three years later he came to Poweshiek County, where he continued to live. His wife died in 1893, but he bravely kept his family together till the spring of 1911.

The six children now living are: Mrs. Wm. McKay, Miss Kate Siehl and Mrs. Annie Luttman, of Grinnell; John and Hans Siehl of Gilman; Mrs. Jessie King, of Malcom.

Mr. Siehl was confirmed in the Lutheran church when a boy and has ever held to that faith.

Mr. Siehl not only served his time in the regular army of Germany but also served in the war between France and Germany. Services were held at the home of his sons, Tuesday, October 28th, after which the body was laid to rest in the beautiful Grinnell cemetery beside his wife whom he awaits in the great day when the earth and sea give up their dead.

Services were conducted by Rev. O.E. McBride of the Sonora M.E. church.
