LOTTIE SIMMONS SERICES TODAY

Mrs. Lottie Simmons, 77, the wife of Ralph Simmons of Mt. Ayr, died Friday morning (Jan. 4) at her home.

The daughter of Alexander and Eliza McGinnis Brownlie, she was born March 15, 1896, in Scott County, Iowa. She attended Grinnell schools. She was married to Ralph Simmons. The couple had four children: Donald Simmons of Des Moines; Mrs. Charles (Mary Jean) Harvey of Elgin, Ill.; Mrs. William (Louise) Kirby of Venicia, Calif.; and Mrs. Donald (Alliene) Ibbotson of Plymouth, Iowa.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Simmons farmed near Grinnell. For the past 16 years they had made their home in Mt. Ayr.

Survivors include her husband, her children, 13 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters, including Mrs. Lettie Berry, her twin sister, who died Jan. 9. 1973.

Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday, Jan. 7) at Mt. Ayr and at 3 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Horace O. Schaffner, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Harvey H. Martindale, and pallbearers were Gene H. Berry, Orville Hafkey, Roger Lincoln, Warren Lincoln, Bill Peters, and Bernard Simmons.

Burial was in Westfield Cemetery southwest of Grinnell.
