LOLA K. SEARS

Lola Kathryn Sears, 78, of rural Grinnell died Wednesday, Dec. 19, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Wallace pastor of the Newburg-Chester Parish of the United Church of Christ, officiating. Organist was Nancy Sears, and vocalist was Shannon Larson. Pallbearers were Rick Brenner, Chris Gage, Don Larson, and Wes, Brent and Karl Schlenker. Burial was in Chester Cemetery.

The daughter of Elmer and Myrtle Broders Baustian, she was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Sheridan Township. She was a 1931 graduate of Grinnell High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools for two years.

On Dec. 29, 1935, she was married to Richard Sears, and the couple farmed in the Chester area north of Grinnell.

Mrs. Sears was a member of the Chester Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and as church clerk. She was also a member of the Women's Fellowship, was a 4-H leader and honorary member of the Chester Stars 4-H Club, and a member of the Chester Friendly Folks Club. She and her husband were recently made honorary members of the Iowa Ayrshire Breeders Association.

Surviving are her husband, Dick; one son, Larry of Malcom; two daughters, Marilyn Barnes of Madison, Wis., and Glenda Bradshaw of Ames; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; and two sisters, Doris Lindsey of Moline, Ill., and Ruth Higdon of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Don Baustian.
