MYRTLE BAUSTIAN SERVICES TODAY

Mrs. Myrtle Bautian, 78, the widow of Elmer G. Baustian, died late Friday evening (Nov. 20) at Grinnell General Hospital following hospitalization the 11 days. She had been in failing health the past four years and had lived at Friendship Manor the past 18 months.

She was born on Oct. 8, 1892, in Sheridan Township, the daughter of Otto and Catherine Schafer Broders. She was married on Jan. 24, 1912, at her parents' farm home to Elmer G. Baustian. The couple had four children -- Mrs. Richard (Lola) Sears of Rte. 3, Grinnell; Donald G. Baustian of Rte. 1, Malcom; Mrs. Russell (Doris) Lindsey of Moline, Ill.; and Mrs. James (Ruth) Higdon of Rte. 1, Grinnell.

Mr. and Mrs. Baustian had farmed in several locations in Sheridan Township for 40 years before retiring to Grinnell in 1952. They were charter members of the Farm Bureau.

Mrs. Baustian was a member of the W.S.C.S. of the Sheridan Methodist church; in earlier years, she was a member of the G.N.W. Club and the Rebekahs.

She is survived by her children; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Ella) Schultz of Grinnell and Mrs. George (Eva) Hansen of Cresco; one brother, Elmer Broders of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953; one grandson; and two brothers, Lester and Ralph Broders.

Funeral services for Mrs. Baustian were held at 1:30 this afternoon (Monday) at the Sheridan Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Davidson officiating. Pallbearers were George Baustian, Gene Broders, Warren Broders, Walter Hanssen, Merle Harris and Farrell Siehl. Burial was in the Sheridan Cemetery. Friends may call the Smith Funeral Home for additional information.

Should friends desire, memorials in memory of Mrs. Baustian may be made to the Sheridan Methodist church.
