VIRGINIA THOMPSON RUD

Virginia L. Griffin Thompson Rud, 67, of Ft. Collins, Colo., a former resident of rural Montezuma and Grinnell, died of cancer at her home Wednesday, July 3.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Collins, with burial at Grandview Cemetery there.

The daughter of Isaac and Viola Griffin, she was born July 15, 1928, in Malcom. She grew up in Poweshiek County and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1946. She was married to Alfred "Al" Thompson, formerly of Grinnell, in 1946. They lived in Iowa and Arizona prior to moving to Colorado. Mr. Thompson died in 1992.

In September 1993, she was married to David Rud of Ft. Collins.

Mrs. Thompson Rud attended the Lutheran Church and was active in her husband's agribusiness ventures before retiring in 1986.

She is survived by her husband; one brother, Clyde Griffin of Lake Ponderosa; one sister Dorothy Stemsrud of Grinnell; two sons, Michael Thompson of Thornton, Colo., and Steven Thompson of Windsor, Colo.; two daughters, Cathryn Rustabakke of Cedar Rapids and Laura Heughins of Ft. Collins; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.
