ETHEL VANDEVENTER FAITHFUL MOTHER TO HER FAMILY

Funeral services for Mrs. Peter VanDeventer were conducted at 2 p.m. May 5 at the First Christian church, conducted by Rev. Frank Jacobs in the absence of Rev. John Hansel who is ill from the mumps. Miss Alice Underwood played the musical selections and accompanied Betty Acord and Sue Trinkle as they sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Interment was beside her husband in Jackson township cemetery under direction of the Steffy Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Don and Roy Purdum, Don Crider, Forrest Adams, Leon Rowell and Wm. Van Scott.

Ethel Purdum VanDeventer, daughter of Bruce and Temperance Purdum, was born at Dean, Appanoose county, Iowa, July 26, 1882, where she grew to womanhood. She died at her home in Montezuma May 2. On Aug. 1, 1901, she was united in marriage with Peter VanDeventer. To this union were born seven children.

She came to Montezuma in 1922 where she remained until her death. While in Montezuma she united with First Christian church of which she was a faithful member.

Mr. VanDeventer and a daughter, Ruth, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Florence, who teaches school in Davenport, and has made her permanent home with her mother in Montezuma; five sons, Ray of Montezuma, Clell and Lloyd of Cedar Falls; Lazelle of Rockford; and Laverne of Marshalltown, 15 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Edith Conner, Montezuma and Mrs. Myrtle Adams, Sterling, Colo., a brother, Ben Purdum, Montezuma; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was a loving wife and wonderful mother.
