LEGION SERVICES FOR BEN MCNEAL HELD TUESDAY

Commander Marcus Shearer was in charge of American Legion services for Ben McNeal held at 2:00 p.m. Mar. 3 at Steffy Funeral Home. Rev. Frank Jacobs conducted the religious services. Alice Underwood played the musical selections.

Interment was in the Masonic-IOOF cemetery.

Casket bearers were Fred Cochran, Marcus Shearer, Blair Brooks, Ed Fisher, Fred Zorn and Milo Phillips. The Blakley-Stevens color guard attended.

Ben, son of Mary and Oscar McNeal, was born near Montezuma, Apr. 17, 1891, and died at Veterans hospital, Des Moines, at 72 years of age.

He attended rural school and after the death of his father, managed the home farm until he entered military service World War I.

Apr. 27, 1924, he was united in marriage with Mae Wood. They made a home for her nephew, Gary Wood. For a few years they were associated with John Hutchinson in operating the Monte Cafe. For the past 30 years, he has been emoployed by the Marshall Canning Co.

He was a 50 year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and member of the Rebekah lodge, of the Masonic lodge and World War I Barracks.

He is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Mary Stanford, Montezuma; two brothers, William, Oskaloosa, and John, Grinnell; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
