MRS. B.F. PURDUM DIES IN MONTEZUMA

Funeral services for Mrs. B.F. Purdum, who passed away Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.E. Stanford, following a few days' illness, were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal church, with the Rev. M.E. Nethercut in charge. Mrs. D.B. High and Mrs. C.W. Gorsuch, accompanied by Louis Gorsuch, sang appropriate selections. Interment was made in the local cemetery.

The following obituary was read at the service:

Mary Angeline Johnson, daughter of Virgil and Mary Johnson, was born September 15, 1858, and passed away July 5, 1930, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.E. Stanford, at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 20 days.

On March 9th, 1879, she was united in marriage to Oscar M. McNeal. To this union were born nine children namely: William and Roy McNeal and Jessie Whittaker of Grinnell; Ben H. of Marshalltown; Herman C. of Des Moines, and Walter and John, and Mary Stanford of Montezuma. One daughter passed away at the age of 8 years. Mr. McNeal passed away September 19, 1909.

She lived and raised her family on the farm in Union township, which her father bought from the government.

On April 3, 1917, she was married to Bruce F. Purdum, of Dean. They lived in Grinnell until his death August 7, 1929, after which she made her home in Montezuma. Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her passing seven grandchildren, and four step-children, Ethel Van Deventer, Edith Conner, Ben Purdum of Montezuma, and Myrtle Adams of Sterling, Colo., besides many other relatives and friends.--Montezuma Republican.
