CHARLES ROWELL RITES MONDAY

Charles Franklin Rowell, 68, of Montezuma died of a heart attack Friday morning, Nov. 25, at his home.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Bobby Dickerson officiating. Burial was at the Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma, with military rites conducted by Blakely-Stevens Post No. 169, American Legion.

The son of James and Lottie Rowell, he was born Aug. 10, 1915, at Lovett, Ind. He graduated from Lovett High School and was a member of the Baptist Church.

He moved to Iowa in 1937 and was married to Edna Maxine Purdum on Sept. 29, 1940. He served with the U.S. Army in the European theater for three years during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

Mr. Rowell served as city marshal for Montezuma and was a volunteer firefighter. He worked as a heavy-construction mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; his mother, Lottie Sumpter of North Vernon, Ind.; two sons, Charles of Grant, Ala., and Leon of Blue Grass; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Righthouse of Dupont, Ind., and Nona Timbers of Seymour, Ind.; and one brother, Marvel Rowell of Commiski, Ind.
