HAROLD W. DUFFUS

Harold W. Duffus, 82, of Grinnell died Wednesday, June 28, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Del Dawes officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers were Larry Bush, Doug Duffus, Gary Meldrem, Jim Meldrem, Gary Meldrem, Jim Meldrem, Wayne Ross and Chuck Whisenand. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Fred and Myrtle Ferneau Duffus, he was born Feb. 9, 1918, on the family farm near Malcom. He was raised in the Brooklyn area and attended school in Hartwick. He was a 1936 graduate of Brooklyn High School.

He was married to Norma Jean Meldrem Aug. 16, 1946. The couple lived in Malcom, Gilman and Kellogg prior to moving to Grinnell in 1974.

Mr. Duffus was an independent agent for Standard Oil and later operated D&S Oil Co. in Grinnell. He retired in 1982.

He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and a former member of the Grinnell American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the Grinnell Lions Club, of which he was a past president. He was also a former volunteer with the Kellogg Fire Department.

Surviving are two sons, Mike of Newton and Marty of Grinnell; one daughter, Connie Halsne of Woodward; one brother, Harry of Grinnell; one sister, Hazel Foster of Brooklyn; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
