RICHARD ROSS SERVICES HELD
Funeral services for Richard Ross, 59, of Rte. 2, Brooklyn, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Arnold Lein, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, officiating. Mr. Ross died Jan. 28 at Grinnell General Hospital.
Pallbearers included Gerald Ross, Ronald Clayton, Richard Clayton, Jimmie Meldrem, Marty Duffus and Dean Johnston. Burial was at the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Brooklyn, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The son of Tom and Molly Wheeler Ross, he was born Oct. 4, 1922, near Brooklyn. He attended rural schools, and moved to the Rte. 2 farm with his parents in 1936.
On Aug. 21, 1948, he was married to Zadie Meldrem, in Brooklyn. The couple continued to operate the same farm, where Mr. Ross lived for 46 years. He was a member of the Brooklyn Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Jane Redix of Nevada, Wayne Ross of Malcom, Shirley Grimm of Deep River and Susan Edelen of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton of Gilbert, Ariz., and Howard of Toledo; and three sisters, Kathryn Henry of Brooklyn, MaDora Moore of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rozella Thomas of Cambridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lewis; one sister, Lavinia; and one brother and one sister in infancy.
