EUGENE MELDREM

Eugene Meldrem, 60, of De Soto, a native of Brooklyn, died of a heart ailment Friday, Jan. 5, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at Fisher Funeral Home in Adel, with burial in Booneville Cemetery.

The son of Ervie and Alice Meldrem, he was born April 29, 1929, at Brooklyn. He was married to Dixie Allen in October 1956 at Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Meldrem had lived in Van Meter prior to moving to De Sota 12 years ago. He worked for Penn-Dixie Cement Co. for 30 years and recently had been employed by Von Maur department store in West Des Moines. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Terrell of Van Meter; one daughter, Vickie McDowell of Grinnell; two step-daughters, Connie Thompson of Van Meter and Denise Forret of Adel; a brother, Gaylord of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Mona Thompson of Truth or Consequences, N.M ., and Karen Mason of Ames; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David.
