D.J. HAINES
D.J. Haines, 38, of Grinnell, died Sunday, Nov. 17, of injuries sustained in a tractor accident on his farm.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 21, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Len Eberhart, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Dale Brand, Tony Emry, Jeff Haines, Ken Haines, Larry Kline, Brent Renaud and Anson Walker. Honorary bearers were Jerry Haines, Bob Hitchler, Todd Honold, Gary Lowry, Kenneth Tedrick Sr. and Kenneth Tedrick Jr. Burial was in West Liberty Cemetery, rural Searsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the D.J. Haines Memorial Fund.
The son of Glenn Ray and Sharon Kay Sille Haines, he was born May 11, 1964, in Newton. He was raised in Jasper county and attended school in Baxter. He moved with his family to Grinnell in 1973 and graduated with honors from Grinnell High School in 1982. He later attended Indian Hills Community College where he received the license in air frame and power plant and an associate degree in aviation technology.
He was married Sept. 24, 1988, in Montezuma to Cathy Tedrick and the couple made their home in the Grinnell area. He was employed by area farmers for several years prior to his employment with Van Wyk Freight Lines in 1988. He began working for Co-Line Manufacturing in Sully in 1997. He also farmed in Poweshiek County. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Poweshiek County Fair Association and Iowa Cattlemen's Association.
He is survived by his wife Cathy; two children Stephanie and Carson Haines; his mother, Kay Haines, and one brother Ken Haines, all of Grinnell, and his grandmother, Margaret Sille, Newton. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents Joe Sille, Rachel Haines and Derrel Haines.
