GRACE GAUSS
Grace L. Gauss, 88, of Grinnell died of kidney failure Sunday, March 9, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Homer Perry of the Mayflower officiating. Pallbearers were Joe, Steffen and Tyrone Gauss and Jerry McDonald. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Montezuma.
The daughter of Clifford and Margaret McClure Johnson, she was born Oct. 2, 1908, near Montezuma. She was a 1926 graduate of Montezuma High School.
She was married to Paul Mitchell for several years, and after their marriage ended in divorce she moved to Grinnell in 1935. She was married to George Eldred Gauss June 6, 1937, in Missouri. They continued to live in Grinnell where she was employed by the Monroe Hotel and, later Grinnell College. She recently made her home at Friendship Manor.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Marcelline McDonald of Portland, Ore.; one son, Gordon Gauss of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; one sister, Charlene Dugger of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Gary and Bud Mitchell and Roger Gauss; one brother, Virgil Johnson; and one sister in infancy.
